SEATTLE – May 2, 2011 – Seattle Center Monorail is expanding its hours of operation effective Monday, May 2, 2011 to include a 7:30 AM start time on weekdays and service until 11:00 PM daily.
The new hours operation will be:
Monday-Friday 7:30 AM to 11:00 PM
Saturday-Sunday 8:30 AM to 11:00 PM.
This change in schedule has been made to help better serve commuters by providing a transportation solution between downtown Seattle and Lower Queen Anne.
The Monorail runs between downtown’s Westlake Center Mall (5th Avenue and Pine Street) and Seattle Center (adjacent to the Space Needle). The train departs approximately every 10 minutes and the trip between downtown and Seattle Center takes 2 minutes; it’s the fastest way to travel between downtown and Seattle Center.
Monthly Monorail passes are available for purchase at Monorail ticketing booths on the platforms: $40 for an adult monthly pass and $20 for a reduced-rate monthly pass (seniors 65+, disabled, or persons with Medicare card).
Roundtrip fares are $4 for adults, $2 for seniors (65+), disabled, or persons with Medicare card, $1.50 for youths (ages 5-12), and free for children 4 and under. One-way fares are half of what a roundtrip fare costs. Cash or check only – ORCA card not accepted.
The Monorail carries approximately 1.8 million riders each year. It was built for the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair and celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2012.
