Job Title:        Maintenance Mechanic (Full-time)

Reports To:     Maintenance Manager

FSLA Status:      Non-exempt; At-will

Compensation: Starting hourly wage $25.00-$35.00/hour depending on experience

Seattle Monorail Services offers medical insurance to all employees who work a minimum of 25 hours per week. Plan enrollment occurs on the first day of the month following the plan’s 60-day waiting period and sometimes falls within the new-hire probationary period (90 days). All permanent employees beyond their new-hire probationary period are eligible to participate in the company SIMPLE-Individual Retirement Account plan as well as our book and tuition reimbursement program.

Schedule: During the training period, typical scheduled shifts would occur in the daytime between Monday-Friday. Once training is completed, scheduled shifts are typically Monday-Friday from 6:00am-2:00pm with some weekend, evening, and on-call shifts based on operational needs.

Position Objective:  Serve as a vital member of our maintenance team by openly contributing efforts, insights, expertise, and experience. Our goal is to achieve the status wherein every asset for which we are responsible or upon which we depend is continually maintained in a State of Good Repair and is excellent in appearance and cleanliness. Performing a variety of skilled technical duties such as performing inspections, troubleshooting, preventative and corrective maintenance, and component changeouts on Seattle Center Monorail trains. Ensuring that equipment and facilities are fully available to our operations team, except when scheduled out of service for pre-planned work.

Essential Functions:

  • Critically conduct preventative maintenance inspections and precisely record and describe conditions requiring repair or further inspection;
  • Perform ordinary maintenance on all systems, facilities and signage, including preventative maintenance, repairs, and changeouts;
  • Accurately record work performed, parts and supplies used, and time spent on all tasks for posting and tracking in maintenance software;
  • Develop working knowledge of all elements of SMS systems and facilities; become expert in the function, maintenance, and repair of all systems and facility components that SMS maintains with internal staff;
  • Continually follow all work and safety procedures; and
  • Participate in department’s on-call rotation; work overtime and respond to emergency situations when requested.

Training Overview:

  • Pass our pre-employment drug screening, all subsequent random screenings, DOT physical exam, and respirator medical evaluation.
  • Successfully complete, within 1 year of hire date, the Seattle Monorail Driver Training program, which requires:
    • Valid driver’s license,
    • Clean driving record with no violations in the last three years for a suspended license, moving violations, reckless or negligent driving, DUI, hit-and-run incidents, vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, or more than one at-fault accident;
  • Complete and maintain company-provided First Aid and CPR certification and safety training.

Education, Experience, and Abilities Required:

  • Occupational Associates Degree in Applied Science (i.e., a technical program in aeronautical, automotive, diesel and heavy equipment, electrician, industrial power, maritime, electronics, machinist, welding, millwright, industrial control systems, engineering, etc.); a certificate from a technical, trade or vocational school; or at least five years of relevant job experience.
  • Excellent mechanical and/or electrical aptitude, and troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Familiar with safe work practices in an industrial environment; professional attitude and appearance; self-motivated and proactive.
  • Working knowledge of the general principles commonly utilized in mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and structural systems, and the troubleshooting of these systems.
  • Proficient in the proper use of tools such as wrenches, drills, saws, grinders, hydraulic jacks.
  • Computer skills that include using email, web forms, and maintenance tracking software.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to lift and carry 45 pounds; ability to walk up and down stairs; sufficient visual, audio, and olfactory acuity to effectively perform duties; physically fit and able to maneuver in confined spaces.

Experience preferred but not required:

  • High voltage electrical propulsion systems, especially high voltage DC
  • Reading mechanical and electrical schematics and drawings
  • PLCs or other control systems
  • Accurate use of measuring tools such as calipers and multimeters

Job Title: Seasonal Customer Service Representative (Part-time, Summer 2024)

Reports To: Operations Supervisor

FSLA Status: Non-exempt; At-will

Compensation: Hourly rate is $20.00/hour. This is a part-time, seasonal position. Work is available from May 2024 through Labor Day. This is a part-time position with 2-3 shifts per week, a shift is typically 7-8 hours. This role will include work on Sundays and Mondays with the potential of adding additional shifts based on the applicant's availability and operational needs.

Position Objective: We are hiring a Part-Time, Seasonal (Summer 2024) Customer Service Representative who will work hard to ensure passengers have a positive experience on the Seattle Center Monorail.

Who are you: An enthusiastic lover of transportation, events and people. You have a true passion for engaging in meaningful interactions and creating memorable experiences for all guests. You strive to be helpful, engaging and knowledgeable of all things Monorail and Seattle Center related. Customer Service Representatives know that first impressions are everything. One must provide friendly, responsive service to create an exceptional experience for all our customers riding the iconic Monorail. Lastly, you enjoy working hard and in a team environment.

We are looking for employees who are flexible and able to work weekends (Sundays are required). We believe in work-life balance and work hard to ensure our employees have two consecutive days off in a row; we also produce employees schedules at least one month in advance.

  • Welcome guests and answer general questions about Seattle Center Monorail
  • Remain knowledgeable about operating hours and ticket prices
  • Provide superior customer service

Training Overview: In order to become a Customer Service Representative, you must:

Job Title: Monorail Driver and Customer Service Representative (Hybrid position)

Reports to: Operations Supervisor

FSLA Status: Non-exempt; At-will

Compensation and Schedule: Starting hourly rate is $20.00/hour. Upon successfully passing Monorail Operator Training, hourly rate increases to $21.00/hour.

Seattle Monorail Services offers medical insurance to all employees who work a minimum of 25 hours per week. Plan enrollment occurs on the first day of the month following the plan’s 60-day waiting period and sometimes falls within the new-hire probationary period (90 days). All permanent employees beyond their new-hire probationary period are eligible to participate in the company SIMPLE-Individual Retirement Account plan as well as our book and tuition reimbursement program.

We have full-time and part-time work available that includes the weekend. Once trained, most shifts available are closing shifts that typically end at 11:00pm unless there is an event at Climate Pledge Arena that requires a late closure (could be as late as 12:30-1:00am). Shifts are typically 6-9 hours in length. The Monorail is open 7 days per week, 363 days per year. We are looking for employees who are flexible and able to work weekdays and weekends. We believe in work-life balance and work hard to ensure our employees have two consecutive days off in a row; we also produce employees schedules at least one month in advance.

Position Objective: The Seattle Center Monorail system plays a significant role in providing fast, direct transportation to and from events at Seattle Center. This unique position includes learning how to operate the historic Seattle Center Monorail as well as working as a customer service representative to assist passengers.

  • Cleaning or coordinating with janitorial team to maintain a sanitary, tidy train, and station
  • Following safety protocols and communicating with Operations, police, and security personnel for the purpose of maintaining safety and security
  • Perform any other duties that are required by the Operations Supervisor or Manager

  • Remain knowledgeable about operating hours and ticket prices as well as general Seattle Center visitor information
  • Assist with troubleshooting of ticket kiosks and crowd control at Monorail Stations

Training Overview:
