Take a walk through history on the U.S.S. Turner Joy

October 17, 2014

DSC_1529Tired of viewing history in a book or from behind a pane of glass? The U.S.S. Turner Joy, a decommissioned navy museum ship moored in Bremerton, offers a unique way of experiencing history. Much of this historic Vietnam-era destroyer has been restored and opened to the public. Walk through the wardroom and the crew’s mess! Explore the bunks in the lower decks where the 275 enlisted personnel would sleep! Gaze upon the glowing equipment of the Combat Information Center! See the equipment that was used to call down to the engine room from the wheelhouse!

Looking for something fun to do this Halloween? Why not check out the Turner Joy’s Haunted Ship? This unique take on the classic haunted house is always a hit! It runs from October 27-November 1. Admission is $10, or $9 with a canned food donation. What better way to celebrate the season?

Visitor tip: Save on ferry fares! The Turner Joy is within walking distance of the Bremerton ferry terminal, no need to bring the car!DSC_1431
